Cold water diving can lead to “internal icing” in breathing air. This effect worsens with even slight increases in water vapor percentage in the breathing mixture. The water protection or dip tube is the first system point affected. This is where “air relaxation” starts. Under the right conditions, steel cylinders can rust and aluminum cylinders can oxidize. Micro particles can contaminate the air and impact diver safety and equipment integrity. The Nautec filter element is constructed from a hydrophobic PE plastic, which is a poor heat conductor and safe for the body. Additionally, it is temperature resistant, impact resistant, and chemically neutral. By capturing the smallest particles in the 3 to 5 thousandths of a millimeter range (3-5 μ) and being water impermeable, the MicroMaxx Filter ensures your safety against icing. This filter is designed to replace the traditional plastic or brass water protection or dip tube, fitting all Nautec valves. A model with an M 6 x 0.75 metric connection thread is also available for valves made in Italy (Halcyon/Scubapro, Thermo, etc.).

NAUTEC recommends checking the filter element annually during visual inspections. More frequent inspections are needed for heavy use or questionable air sources. The filter should be replaced every five years during hydrostatic testing.
