The XTX40 serves as an excellent entry-level regulator.
The DS4 first stage does not include the rotating turret present on the XTX50 first stage and offers one HP port. This compact first stage has been widely accepted by the global technical diving community as a reliable workhorse.
Features & Benefits:
This compact first stage features four medium-pressure ports and one high-pressure port. It includes an innovative Diver Changeable Exhaust system (DCE) that allows the diver to switch between different exhaust tee sizes. This flexibility caters to individual preferences, offering a wider exhaust tee for minimal bubble interference (crucial for underwater photography) or a narrower one for a more compact, comfortable regulator. The regulator can also be converted from a right-handed hose configuration to a left-handed one, with a simple and quick process that should only be carried out by an APEKS Authorised Service Technician.

- DS4 first stage – no rotating turret.
- Unique, over-balanced diaphragm design – allows medium pressure gas in the hose to increase faster than ambient pressure as the diver descends, resulting in superior performance at depth.
- Environmental dry system prevents water from entering the main spring chamber, preventing ice buildup and keeping out silt and contamination.
- Pneumatically-balanced second stage for smooth breathing.
- Large, easy-to-operate XTX purge buttons with 2-stage progressive purge for control and efficiency.
- Soft touch rubber grip on the venturi lever for ease of use and resistance to grit ingress.
- Active protection against infection with additive-treated molded parts.
- Silicone exhaust valve for improved breathing performance.
- Comfo-bite™ mouthpiece reduces jaw fatigue.
- Patented heat exchanger around valve mechanism for enhanced breathing comfort.
