A Rash Guard, also known as a rash vest or rashie, is a type of water wear, an athletic shirt crafted from Spandex and Lycra nylon. The name Rash Guard signifies its ability to shield the wearer from rashes caused by abrasion. These shirts can be worn alone or under a wetsuit. The utilization of Lycra and Spandex results in a garment that is lightweight, rapid drying, flexible, long-lasting, naturally antibacterial, and water wicking. Other key features of a rash guard include flatlock stitching, and a ten panel construction. The ten panel construction, as opposed to the traditional 4 panel tee shirt construction, allows the user greater mobility both wet and dry. Additionally, Rash Guards provide sun protection (measured by its Ultraviolet Protection Factor), with the Waterproof Rash Guard offering a 50% UV protection factor.
