Buna-N is commonly known as nitrile rubber, while Viton is known as Fluorocarbon rubber. Viton offers superior chemical and temperature resistance compared to Buna, although Buna is typically more cost-effective. Viton O-rings are 02 Compatible – Buna rings are not.

O-rings naturally degrade over time or when exposed to sunlight and salt air. It is recommended to have a few spare ones in your dive kit. You never know when you might need to replace your tank’s o-ring.
