Dive Rite – Short Stainless Steel XT Backplate

Designed for divers with shorter torsos to ensure a comfortable fit.

The Stainless Steel XT Backplate is now available in a shorter size, perfect for women or divers with shorter torso lengths. The short plate measures 13.5 (34.3cm) in overall length, 1.5 (3.8cm) shorter than the standard size. It features all the same components as the standard plate, with the exception of a single bolt hole position and the elimination of the 1 crotch strap slot for space efficiency. The Short XT Backplate remains fully compatible with Dive Rite Single Tank Adapter (STA), all Dive Rite Wings, and backplate harnesses.

Built on the foundation of Dive Rite backplates produced since 1984, the XT Backplate has been updated with new features and ergonomics for modern divers. Crafted from 10 gauge low carbon, rust-resistant 316L stainless steel, the unique shape conforms to the diver’s back while rounded corners prevent discomfort or damage to exposure suits. Each XT plate is meticulously finished by hand to ensure smooth edges that won’t harm harness webbing. The plates are electropolished for a sleek finish and laser engraved for a polished appearance.

The XT backplate features 11″ (27.9cm) on-center mounting holes for standard double tank bolt kits. Two sets of 2″ slots along the center channel allow for cam strap weaving for single tank diving without a single tank adapter. Side tabs with pairs of holes are designed for bungees to secure sidemount stage bottles. Additional holes along the outer edges offer flexibility for mounting various accessories such as lights, pony bottles, lift bags, and more.

2 harness webbing slots are integrated throughout for compatibility with Basic, Deluxe, or Transplate style harnesses. A 2″ (50mm) slot at the bottom center accommodates crotch straps up to 2″ (50mm) in width. Weighing 5.41 lbs (2.45 kg) for the short model, stainless steel plates provide balanced ballast weight distribution favored by many divers.
